ATP-binding cassette sub-family B member 6, mitochondrial (ABCB6) binds heme and porphyrins and functions in their ATP-dependent uptake into the mitochondria. ABCB6 plays a crucial role in heme synthesis. Depletion of ABCB6 by RNAi abrogates heme biosynthesis. Overexpression enhances porphyrin biosynthesis.The synthetic peptide used to raise the antibody Cat. No. 250549 is selected from a sequence within the N-term region of human ABCB6. For blocking experiments, a 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended.
