Beta-defensin 1 is a peptide with bactericidal activity. The exact mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of defensins is not known, but two models have been postulated, one involving pore formation and the other involving nonspecific electrostatic interaction with the bacterial membrane.The synthetic peptide used to raise the antibody Cat. No. 251532 is selected from a sequence within the C-term region of rat beta-defensin 1. For blocking experiments, a 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended.
